Our Purpose and Background

Simply put...the purpose is to host a great community event.

The concept isn’t new and in fact is based on a village-wide sale our chief organizer and his wife stumbled onto while antiquing in New England. Small villages host weekend sales with at most a couple of dozen participants. The organizers thought with all the Fall yard sales held each year why not get the whole community involved for one big sale.

It all started back in 2003 with a simple idea to register as many sales as possible. There were around 30 yard sales that signed up, some opted to be Early Birds. In 2004, we began offering booth space for those needing a place to sell their “overstocked” treasures. That second year there was a tremendous response with just under a hundred participants and that number grows each year. In 2013, we had 85 yard sales, 25 Flea Market vendors and 120 vendors over two days at Fireman's Field.

The Tag Sale now called Purcellville Pop-up Sale, too, is no-host, community event. The Town of Purcellville handles registration and publishes all the sales locations via online map and app. Businesses host sales and residents open up their garages to shoppers.

Two stalwarts, part of the TWTS tradition since 2003, are still with us this year.

  • Antique Flearuns Fri, Sat, & Sun- hosted by long time partners Everyday Elegance at 600 E Main Street offers juried vendors, antiques, collectibles, unique crafts and great life style bargains.
  • Book Sale sponsored by the Library Board at 220 E Main Street with everything from magazines to books to DVDs and more. Scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday.

Things change (names especially), but the Tag Sale continues to be a great time with friends you may not have met yet...come out and join us this year!
